If you stand on the bank of a river, you will observe a stream of water is flowing continuously. Sometimes, there will be no turbulence, but that does not mean that water flow is stopped, and there will be, of course, high tide and low tide. In the case of your life, it resembles the flow of a river. The more it flows on a continuous basis, the more will be the life’s progress. Now, if you are not in a position to propel your life with a steady growth, and if you fail to navigate the growth in a right direction, you will be mostly morose and unhappy. Contrarily, if you can provide a right direction, you will be able to enjoy the richness of life. Once you can follow this pattern in your life, you can not only make your life happy, but you can also make others happy. In this way, there are many people in the world who are generous, noble and talented. They do not see their richness materialistically, but they ensure that they are full of happiness all the time. Some people, of course, are noble and generous, but still, they get stuck in the regular pattern of lives psychologically. Their goodness does not yield any benefits what they want to have. They stuck with what they knew and what they have achieved or what they are planning to achieve. These types of people are a victim of their social conditioning because they do not question their acts, performance and why are they doing the same as they are trapped in their conclusions. Their whole lives are getting stuck in their analysis what they are doing, and what they will do and finally, they end their lives to observe their conclusion and in this process, they feel to achieve the greatness and smell the fragrance of the lives. But in the end, they feel stressed and discontent.
Why does it happen? Because of training imparted to you by your parents, teachers, guardians, and superiors in the professional field, you learn the same always get stuck in your opinion, to your conclusion, to what you like and dislike. On the contrary, if you question everything, you may yourself astonish that how foolishness you maintain to have all those opinions, options and conclusions. Is it not true that we are trapped in our attachment to what we know and feel is going to give us happiness or fulfillment? You always tend to think, “If I receive what I need, then I will become happy. So, I have knowledge of what I want and there is a conclusion that it will give me more happiness.” Until you get that particular thing or you achieve that particular goal, you will not be having any happiness and you will be under dissolution. If you look into discontentment, you will see that you always compare, and in that comparison, you are more discontent. Can you live your life without any comparison? If your friend is a millionaire, you should be also a millionaire, if your brother has a swanky car, you should also possess the similar type of car. This type of comparison only brings discontent and you get stuck in your opinion and you are not in a position to get liberated. Most of the people are not happy, because they always go behind comparison, what they have, they are not happy with the same, but what they do not get, they aspire for the same, and if they achieve the same, then only they get happiness.
We are not in the richness of what we have. With that lack of our observations “what is”, we work for we do not have. Further, when we get that what we try to have, our ignorant will bring us the beauty of what we have achieved. Unless we learn to be sensitive to what we have, we will not optimize what we have, and so, we will be discontent. With this feeling, even if we get what we want, inner discontent will spoil the richness of our achievement. For example, let us take a story of an intelligent person who goes to a Zen master and feels inferior when he observes with a minute attention that people come to Zen master and bow down and seek his blessings. Seeing and understanding the inner feeling of the person, Zen master then said, “See the moon, it is far away in the sky; still, it shines.” Then again, he points to the rose in the garden and said, “It is so fragrant on the ground. The rose does not compare with the moon and the moon does not compare with rose. In the absence of comparison, both are rejoicing in their richness.” From the story, we must learn to discard disorders from lives. Most of us who are working in a factory either as a worker or as an executive are unhappy. If you analyze the social condition of people, you will find this fact is everywhere. They are unhappy like the person what has been said above. That person who came to the Zen master is a talented one, but despite his noble behavior, he is discontent like anything. Look into your life deeply; you have to get rid of all your disorders.
Do not allow comparison for killing you. Just you have to flow like a river. There is no need for any comparison because it has no end. Without doing any comparison, you can still be very successful. That is the only option which you must embrace in your life to glorify your life condition. You have to find this healthy option with the fullest clarity and perform your business or work. You have to lead your life socially or professionally in this manner, and then see the beauty of life. In this way, you can get liberated from the fixed type of pattern you are stuck in.
