Is it possible to control everything in life the way we want?
Many people like to do so, and take part in everything and dominate others like to impose their views unilaterally. When they fail, they get irritated.
The whole idea behind this controlling everything is that we want to establish our prominence both in our personal or social life. In a social gathering, you always prefer that people will hear you when you will say something. They must listen to you, and they should not oppose you.
When you lose this control, you get frustrated and show your anger. It happens many times in every sphere of our activities.
Fundamentally, if you know the reason of controlling and how to do the same, you will be always at peace. Everything is generally associated with two types of activities – one is conditional and another is constitutional. When you indicate conditions, it means it fulfills specific requirements, and if we cannot meet those parameters, then it is not the proper discharging of activities.
Constitutional means the event which relates to someone’s nature. For example, molasses is sticky. In the same way, water is liquid by nature. Hence, the viscosity and liquidity are the parts of these substances. When it comes to water, it gets frozen when there is excessive cold. When you heat water, it changes to vapor and makes others warms or burns.
Again these are conditional activities which Srila Bhakti Vedanta Swami narrates that when a living entity is conditioned, he has two kinds of events – one is conditional, and other is constitutional.
When you protect your body or accept the norms of society or state, there will be many other activities, which will be connected to the conditioned life and these are called conditional. Apart from this, the living entity always has a sense of spirituality and has religious services rest unto God, then all his activities which are transcendentally performed in his constitutional way.
Generally, we recognize our body as a person and also we use the terms as ‘my body,’ ‘my mind,’ and ‘my intelligence.’
Have you come across any person who says, ‘I am the body,’ ‘I am the mind,’ or ‘I am intelligence?’
No, you will not come across these types of words. ‘I’ is somebody who is different from the body. If your body has a conscious principle, it will be construed as a person. When the same body loses consciousness or he is dead, nobody then terms that body has a person.
We mostly focus on the realizing the facts in life and we accept the constitutional position of all living beings though we mostly accept the conditional position of living being. What is a meaning of this philosophical interpretation? We all accept that a living being is called living.
When he is the principle of consciousness, means his Atman is guiding him in the right or wrong way. When we accept any living being as ‘Atman’, we accept the constitutional position of that living being. Unless the atomic soul, the energy level of the soul which is also known as blissful nature and knowledgeable supreme lord exist in your body, you will be known as a person.
Based on the principle ‘I’ remains and by the absence of that principle, ‘I’ do not remain.
Everything depends on mind, body, and soul. But one must understand the difference. The soul is eternal, but the body is not, and it is a constitutional position. Whenever we urge for our conditional state, we detach from that situation and that, and it is a fact.
Being soul, we understand the concept of sat+chid+anand. We always have a tenacity to become happy. Though we try very hard to become happy all the times, we see happiness is slipping from our hands often. It is not eternal. Though our desires to be satisfied and to be in bliss will be predominant, but it never happens in that way.
Because of this reason, we always want to control things in our way, but miss most of the time. What should we then do to retain this happiness status-quo in life?
According to the Bhagwad Gita, all the living entities are not parts of the supreme, but a part of God’s energy. We, the souls, are the servants of God eternally. In Gita, Krishna explains that soul is a part of that potency. It means the soul is a servitor of Super-soul.
When we live our life in this material world and forget the Super-soul, we suffer from various miseries. When the self-soul serves lord in his constitutional position or practices devotion, it remains in transcendental ecstasy and not getting affected by any threefold suffering.
If you learn how to live the life without controlling much, you will be reaching a state of devotion and you will be liberated from the cycle of birth and death. In other words, by virtue of controlling, you are calling all your sufferings.
So, why to control everything?
